Redlands has one of the most expensive public hospitals in the country.
The community health center has been in place for just over two decades and is one of only two public hospitals operating in the United States with no operating room.
The other is the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Redlands Community College has also been on the list for a number of years.
Redlands is the only community college in the state to receive an operating room for the last four years.
But in the last two years, the community college has received more operating room slots than it’s received since it opened in 2013.
The college’s population has grown from 9,400 in 2013 to 15,000 in 2020.
Community health centers have historically struggled to compete with hospitals in terms of accessibility and affordability, but the influx of new residents has helped Redlands grow from just a single hospital to one with multiple locations.
That growth, combined with the hospital’s continued presence in the Redlands community, has made Redlands the state’s largest hospital.
At the time of this article, Redlands was the sixth-largest hospital in the nation, and the ninth-largest in California.
This article has been updated to reflect that Redlands County Public Health has also seen a significant increase in operating room capacity since its expansion in 2013, as of the time this article was published.
